Why does a price differ from another site?
Updated Oct 1, 2026 · 1 min read
A single exchange shows the last trade on its own book. Our figure is an aggregate of many venues over a short window, so a small gap is expected.
Common reasons for a larger gap
| Reason | What happens |
|---|---|
| Thin venue | One exchange with little liquidity can trade far from the rest of the market |
| Perpetual market | Perps trade at a funding premium or discount, so they count for less in our index |
| Outlier filter | A venue more than 2% from the median is left out of the price |
| Different currency | Prices in another currency are converted from our USD price at live FX rates |
| Other aggregators | Other sites use different venues, weights and filters, or republish exchange-reported figures |
If the gap is large and lasts more than a few minutes, report it.
