A company that holds customer funds and matches their orders on an order book it operates.
Binance, Coinbase, OKX, Upbit and dozens of others are centralised exchanges. They offer deep liquidity, fiat on-ramps and account recovery, at the cost of custody: the exchange holds the coins.
