Consensus
The rules by which a blockchain's nodes agree on which transactions are valid and in what order.
Consensus is what lets strangers maintain one ledger without trusting each other. Proof of work reaches it through computation; proof of stake through validators who post the chain's coin as collateral and lose it for dishonesty.
